Cherbourg Community Footpath Project – 1.7km Concrete Pathway

Cherbourg Concrete Footpath Project

Major Community Infrastructure – Cherbourg Footpath Project

Steinhardts Building & Construction recently completed concrete work on a significant community infrastructure project in Cherbourg – delivering 1.7 kilometres of footpath totalling 4500 square metres. This council initiative demonstrates our capability to handle large-scale public infrastructure projects while meeting strict engineering and compliance requirements.

Project Scope and Specifications

The footpath project required meticulous planning and execution to meet council and engineering standards. “The project manager had a lot of work go into the design with engineering,” Zac Steinhardt explains. The technical specifications included expansion joints every 12 metres with saw cut joints every 3 metres, ensuring long-term durability of the pathway.

Working as subcontractors to the main builder, our team focused on delivering the concrete works to exacting standards across the entire 1.7 kilometre length.

Challenges of Large-Scale Footpath Work

“The sheer size and making sure we meet council and engineering requirements” presented the primary challenges, according to Zac. “Weather played a big part also” in managing the project timeline and maintaining quality standards throughout the pour and finishing process.

These challenges required adaptive planning and professional project management to ensure consistent results across the full distance of the pathway.

Specialised Equipment and Techniques

Completing 4500 square metres of footpath to a consistent finish requires specialised equipment. “We utilised our pole trowel machines – made a massive difference,” Zac notes. The team also deployed light towers for early morning starts during winter months, maximising productivity while maintaining quality control.

The project was completed within 4-6 weeks for the concrete works, demonstrating efficient execution on a large-scale public infrastructure project.
